Top 10 tips for getting the most out of your fieldwork experience and ensuring success!

  1. Communicate, communicate, communicate
  2. Be open minded: to learning, to other’s values, different approaches, and experiences
  3. Be passionate: Demonstrate a passion for knowledge, learning and occupational therapy
  4. Be client-centered: in everything you do the focus is on the client!
  5. Be empathetic & humble: make eye contact, smile, make small talk and connection
  6. Keep a journal or notes: reflection is a great learning took, take notes and come prepared
  7. Respect: approach all situations and individuals with tact and respect (clients, peers, etc)
  8. Initiate: ask questions, seek out opportunities for learning
  9. Expect and welcome constructive feedback: this is a time to grow , be open to it
  10. Be professional: you are a steward of yourself, Clarkson University and the OT profession
