Major advantage: integrates finance, accounting, technology and economics

Accounting is the language of business: income and expenses, revenue and debt, assets and liabilities.  You must be fluent in these concepts in order to make sound, profitable business decisions, whether you work for a small start-up or a multinational corporation.

That means understanding the role of accounting as the basic language of business, the importance of accounting information systems in organizational decision-making, and the use of this information by financial decision makers in managing assets and investments is crucial to business success.

The Financial Information and Analysis (FI&A) major at Clarkson will prepare you to work in an increasingly integrated business environment where traditional finance and accounting roles have merged.  The knowledge and skills developed through our unique curriculum provide graduates with the abilities to succeed in a workplace that is integrating the traditional functions of finance and accounting.

On Wall Street and Main Street, FI&A graduates are uniquely prepared for in-demand careers in management accounting, accounting information systems design, financial management, investment management and corporate financial planning.

Why Clarkson?
The FI&A curriculum gives each student a fundamental knowledge of managerial and cost accounting, and financial statement analysis and is a great fit for students interested in pursuing professional certification in accounting (CPA-Certified Public Accountant) and/or financial management (CFA-Chartered Financial Analyst).

And with active classroom learning—case studies, group projects, consultancies—and a required professional experience (co-op or internship), Clarkson FI&A grads have the experience and confidence to jump right into their future career.

"One of the reasons I chose Clarkson was for its unique FIA degree. This degree encompasses both the finance and accounting sides of the business structure, which creates a better-rounded student who can excel in either field while still being better off by having a look into both mindsets."

Career opportunities for graduates in FI&A include:  management accounting, accounting information systems design, financial management, investment management, financial services, and corporate financial planning.
