On the day after December final exams end, the University holds a special Recognition Ceremony for graduates who are NOT planning to attend a Commencement ceremony in MAy. Please note that if you attend the December ceremony, you will not be invited to attend Commencement in May. All graduates will be in the same ceremony located in the Indoor Recreation Center. Regalia (cap & gown) is required for this event. The ceremony will include a stage for graduates to cross that requires graduates to climb four stairs. If you are not able to climb stairs, please let us know by November 20 so that we can accommodate your needs.

Student with his degree

A December Recognition Ceremony is held for students who meet degree requirements in the Fall term and who do not expect to participate in the May ceremony; these graduates may also notify SAS if they change their plans and want to participate in the May commencement ceremony. Held the day after the last final exams end, the December Ceremony recognizes this student milestone in a ceremony with the Dean and faculty of the School or Institute representing your major.

This information is important to you and your families if you plan to participate in a ceremony to mark the completion of your degree. There is a November 1, 2016 deadline to order cap and gown for people who plan to participate in the December ceremony.
