In August 2008, the Higher Education Opportunity Act (HEOA) became public law 110-315, which requires all institutions of higher education that provide residential housing facilities for students to develop an annual fire safety report that includes the nature, date, time and general location of any fires that occur in your campus's residential housing facilities.  Individuals may access Clarkson University's Fire Safety Report via the following link on the Campus Safety & Security website: http://www.clarkson.edu/campussafety/crime_stats/index.html

In July 2013, Governor Andrew Cuomo signed into law the Kerry Rose Fire Sprinkler Notification Act, which requires public and private colleges in New York State to provide written information on fire safety and sprinkler systems to students residing in college-owned or operated housing.   The Act is named for Kerry Rose Fitzsimons, a college student who died, along with two others, in a 2012 fire in her off-campus residence.  The table below summarizes Clarkson University’s residential housing buildings and the fire safety system components for each residence.
