Why Clarkson for ES&P?

In this Section

Today's environmental leaders need knowledge and skills in a variety of academic fields. That's why our curriculum includes several disciplines, such as biology, chemistry, ecology, environmental health science, and "big picture" courses in politics, history, economics, ethics and law.

As an Environmental Science and Policy (ES&P) student, you'll also have the opportunity to design your educational experiences to meet your career goals. Many of our students double major in areas such as engineering, biology and chemistry or add minors or concentrations to round out their education.

ES&P at Clarkson also offers:

  • Learning about the environment in the environment (6-million acre Adirondack Park)
  • Close mentoring relationships with instructors
  • Small class sizes
  • Work and conduct research with professors recognized as leaders in their field
  • Hands-on experience through course projects
  • Internships
  • Co-ops
  • Capstone projects

ES&P is administered through Clarkson University's Institute for a Sustainable Environment (ISE) which allows access to state-of-the-art equipment and laboratories as well as three centers for student and faculty collaborative research: the Center for Air Resources Engineering and Sciences (CARES), the Center for Sustainable Energy Systems (CSES), and The Great Rivers Center (GRC).

"Clarkson's location in the Adirondacks provides a unique experience for ES&P majors. Classes like botany, ecology, and biology frequently use the Clarkson woods and surrounding area to get up close to plants and wildlife and collect data for various group projects."
