For as long as he can remember, Matthew Gammariello has had a love for numbers. And now that he has secured a job with BAE Systems as a financial analyst, he gets to continue working with numbers – and get paid for it.

Matthew, who will earn a dual degree in financial information & analysis and global supply chain management in May, started actively pursuing positions in leadership and development programs that train the future leaders of the world’s major corporations at one of Clarkson’s fall Career Fairs.

“BAE’s Financial Leadership and Development Program (FLDP) caught my eye when I was researching potential careers going forward,” he explains. “One of my professors brought it to my attention and I sought out BAE at the Career Fair, eventually spending some time talking to one of the recruiters about a FLDP position in Washington, D.C. A few weeks later, I was asked to start going through their highly selective interview and hiring process.”

To prepare for the phone interview and final interviewing event in Maryland, Matthew used the services available through Clarkson’s Career Center, such as “How to interview” and “Resume Building” sessions. He also used the skills he learned as a member of Clarkson’s chapter of the Collegiate Entrepreneurs Organization (CEO) and in the Honors Program.

He says, “The final interviewing event gave me the chance to discuss the topic of my Honors thesis with one of the vice presidents of BAE. On top of that, many of the other managers and FLDPs brought up my thesis during the multiple interview sessions. Overall, the event showed me that while Clarkson may not be the largest university, its educational system puts it on par with some of the best and largest schools in the nation.”

With the job secured, Matthew now looks forward to all that the FLDP entails, including a rotation of job function and location ever year for the next three years. He can rotate to a number of locations around the world in several different job functions and hopes to begin his Master’s in about two years, which BAE will fund.

“Not only will I get to travel around, but I will also be exploring the field of finance more in depth and continuing my studies. I am ecstatic about this opportunity,” he says.
