Overall costs are approximately $5,500 - $7,500 depending on the case.

The sponsoring department is responsible for its portion associated with certain steps of the legal process and depends on the type of permanent residency category that is being pursued. For instance, in the case of PERM Labor Certification processing, sponsoring departments may need to re-recruit for an employee's position under the PERM system, which is an internak cost requiring the position to be posted again and is incurred by the department and cannot be passed onto the employee.

In addition, pursuant to the Department of Labor regulations, sponsoring departments cannot require or allow a foreign national to pay employer/university related attorney fees. These costs are the responsibility of the sponsoring department. It is very important for departments to consider these costs and permanency/longevity with the position before moving forward with the sponsorship process.

Each case should be reviewed on a case-by-case basis in order to determine what permanent residency category is best suited to the individual's qualification and what costs will be associated with such sponsorship.
