Creating a Poster from a Template

This tutorial assumes you have prepared the copy for your publication in Microsoft Word, and that you are working side-by-side in Word and Publisher as you create your publication. Click Here to Download the Template.

Step 1

Step 1:
Open Microsoft Word and select the title of your publication. Choose Copy or Cut.

Step 2 Step 2:
In Publisher, click inside the text box and Paste your text into the template. Under Paste Options, choose Keep Text Only. If you have too many words, your text will overflow into a new text box.
Step 3 Step 3:
In Word, select the subtitle of your publication and choose Copy or Cut.
Step 4 Step 4:
In Publisher, click inside the text box and Paste your subtitle text into the template. Choose Keep Text Only.
Step 5 Step 5:
In Word, select your body text and choose Copy or Cut.
Step 6 Step 6:
Paste your body text into the template in Publisher. Choose Keep Text Only. If you have too many words, your text will overflow into a new text box.
Step 7 Step 7:
Select your location, date and time in Word and choose Copy or Cut.
Step 8 Step 8:
Paste your text into the template in Publisher. Choose Keep Text Only.
Step 9 Step 9:
If you have any extra text, such as contact information, you may add it to the remaining text box in the template. Select the text in Word and choose Copy or Cut.
Step 10 Step 10:
Paste your text into the template in Publisher. Choose Keep Text Only.
Step 11 Step 11:
To add Photos, select the placeholder frame and choose Format > Picture. Select the photo you want to add and click Select. You can move and resize your photo within the placeholder frame.
Step 12 Step 12:
At this point, if you have any overset text, you will have to edit it to fit the available space. Delete any unnecessary information and extra copy. Do not change the font size or color. You may adjust the character spacing in the Font menu, which is part of the Home menu.
Step 13 Step 13:
Review the layout and look for any URLs and email addresses. Bold any URLs and email addresses by clicking in the Font menu.
