Clarkson University Professor Organizes Symposium At Major Chemical Conference

POTSDAM, N.Y. -- Richard E. Partch of Hannawa Falls, Senior University Professor of Chemistry at Clarkson University, was a recent symposium organizer at the Fifth Chemical Congress of North America in Cancun, Mexico. The Congress was co-sponsored by the American Chemical Society, Sociedad Quimica de Mexico [Chemical Society of Mexico], and the Canadian Society for Chemistry.

With a Mexican and a Canadian colleague, Partch co-organized the entire symposium on "Compositional and Morphological Aspects of Higher Performance Catalysts and Composites," which featured 14 speakers from Europe and North America.

My symposium went smoothly and was very successful, as was the NACC as a whole, Partch said. "Excellent technology transfer was achieved and many new international contacts were established between speakers and attendees."

Partch joined the Clarkson faculty in 1965, becoming an associate professor in 1968. In 1987, he was granted full professorship. He received an A.B. degree in chemistry from Pomona (California) College in 1958 and a doctorate in organic chemistry from the University of Rochester in 1962.
