Cyberspace Visionary Esther Dyson Awarded Clarkson University Honorary Degree

Potsdam, N.Y. –Cyberspace visionary Esther Dyson, chairman of EDventure Holdings, today (May 17) received an honorary doctor of science degree at Clarkson University's 105th Commencement in Potsdam, New York.edyson

EDventure Holdings is a small but diversified company focused on emerging information technology worldwide, and on the emerging computer markets of Central and Eastern Europe. Recognized as a computer industry visionary and networker extraordinaire, Dyson is a member of the board of the Electronic Frontier Foundation and is a member of the President's Export Council Subcommittee on Encryption. She co-chaired the U.S. National Information Infrastructure Advisory Council's Information Privacy and Intellectual Property subcommittee, and advises a variety of U.S. and overseas government organizations.

EDventure Holdings publishes the monthly newsletter Release 1.0, sponsors two high-profile annual conferences –PC (Platforms for Communication) Forum and EDventure's High-Tech Forum– and manages EDventure Ventures, a venture capital fund dedicated to active investment in software and information start-ups in Central Europe, including Russia. Dyson recently published her first book, Release 2.0: A design for living in the digital age, to help "designers" of cyberspace think analytically and responsibly about the world they are creating.

After receiving a B.A. in economics from Harvard in 1972, she began her serious career and got her business education as a reporter for Forbes Magazine (1974-77), followed by five years learning the dynamics of the computer and software businesses as a securities analyst with New Court Securities (1977-80) and Oppenheimer & Company (1980-82).

Fluent in Russian, Dyson is a regular keynote speaker at the annual International Computer Forum in Moscow and other trade shows and conferences in the region, and is a presenter at numerous conferences and workshops in the U.S. She has written on industry topics for, among others, the Harvard Business Review, The New York Times, The New York Times Magazine, Wired Magazine, and Forbes Magazine.

Clarkson University is an independent institution located in northern New York, in the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains. The University has 2,745 graduate and undergraduate students enrolled in its schools of Business, Engineering, Liberal Arts and Science.
