Ross Taylor Named Clarkson Chair Of Chemical Engineering

Clarkson University Chemical Engineering Professor Ross Taylor of Potsdam has been appointed chair of the Department of Chemical Engineering.

“Under Professor Taylor’s leadership we can look forward to continued excellence in teaching and scholarly activity,” said Gregory A. Campbell, dean of the School of Engineering. “I am confident that his leadership will help the department focus as it strives to meet the educational needs of our students and to enhance its national and international reputation.”

Taylor joined Clarkson in 1980. He is well known internationally for his accomplishments in the field of multicomponent separation and numerical methods as used in engineering. He has co-authored a book on "multicomponent mass transfer" and is currently writing a book on Maple (a software product used for learning calculus) uses in engineering. He is very active in the chemical engineering academic community through his participation in the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE). He has been a Computer Aids for Chemical Engineers (CACHE) Corporation trustee since 1996. He is also invited to team teach a course on numerical methods in the Netherlands on a yearly basis.

“I am confident that Professor Taylor's interests and experience will serve the department and the University Community well,” said Campbell, “as we strive to enhance our undergraduate and graduate programs at Clarkson.”
