Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Candlelight Vigil And Story Presentation January 18 At Clarkson University

Storyteller and poet Shindana Cooper will lead a candlelight vigil at Clarkson University on Monday, January 18, honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Afterward, she’ll celebrate Dr. King’s life in herCoopersh presentation “Martin’s Story,” a tribute to “the myth, the man and the legend.” The events will take place at Clarkson’s Cheel Campus Center at 8 p.m.

Stimulating awareness in the African and African-American communities, Cooper perpetuates the centuries old tradition of oral history. Cooper’s emotional characterizations include Sojourner Truth, Mary McLeod, and Harriet Tubman.

Cooper also conducts workshops for children on storytelling and the celebration of Kwanzaa. In addition, she recently produced her own radio program, “Keepers of the Culture,” for WCNN in Baltimore and will host her own television special, “Stories from around the World.”

Cooper has performed for public, private and parochial schools, colleges and universities, church groups and corporate organizations. She has been the featured performer at Baltimore’s Afram Expo, Baltimore’s Artscape Celebration, and the National Catholic Conference for Interracial Justice in Washington, D.C.
