Ruder-Finn Managing Director Richard Funess Elected To Clarkson University Board Of Trustees

POTSDAM, N.Y.-- Richard Funess of Pelham Manor, N.Y., managing director of the public relations firm Ruder-Finn/Americas has been elected to the Clarkson University Board of Trustees.  Richard Funess

Funess joined Ruder-Finn/Americas in 1996 after 13 years with Manning, Selvage & Lee (MS&L) public relations, where he rose to the position of president.  Previously, he was managing director of MS&L’s Los Angeles office.  In addition to his administrative duties, which involve expanding Ruder-Finn business throughout the Americas, Funess continues to be involved in news business development and strategic counseling on numerous agency accounts.

Funess has more than 20 years of public relations agency experience, specializing in the creation of specialized account teams to service clients in business and industry.  Over the years, his strategic leadership on such accounts as IBM Research; Lycos; Volkswagen; Subaru/USA;; CBS’s and the Barbados Tourism Authority has helped each of those clients to heighten their awareness and remain leaders in their fields of endeavor.  His career move into public relations evolved after seven years in the broadcasting industry, with ABC and RKO Television in advertising and public relations.

Richard Funess received his B.A. degree in radio/television-broadcast/journalism from the University of Washington.  He is a member of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) and has served on the board of directors of PRSA/Los Angeles.  He is the recipient of two Silver Anvil Awards from PRSA for his management role on the California Department of Transportation public affairs business.

Funess serves as a member of the executive committee of Ruder-Finn. He is on the board of directors of the International Myeloma Foundation and a board member of SBTV in New York.  In addition, he has taught “High Tech” public relations at UCLA Extension in Los Angeles.  He resides in Pelham Manor, N.Y., with his wife, Marijane, and their three children.

Clarkson University is an independent institution located in northern New York, in the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains.  The University has 2,902 graduate and undergraduate students enrolled in programs in its schools of Business, Engineering, Liberal Arts, and Science, and its Interdisciplinary Engineering and Management program.
