The recipient of the Clarkson University Support Staff Award must be a full-time, non-traditional undergraduate student in good academic standing (3.25 cumulative grade-point average or better) in his or her junior year. Active participation in extracurricular activities and demonstrated leadership abilities are also prerequisites for receipt of the award.
In nominations for the award, Brown was described as “a true team player that is willing to go the extra mile for her peers with the courage to stand up for her convictions and beliefs.”

In preparation for her work in physical therapy, Loretta puts in extra hours of clinical work at MedLink of Northern New York.  A mother of two children-- a daughter, Kursten, 12, and a son, Kegan, 9 1/2, both whom excel academically-- Loretta also served as secretary for the Potsdam Parents Nursery school for four years. She was a Girl Scout leader for six years, serving as camp director for four of those years.

Brown also plays hockey for the Ms. Conducts, a women’s team based in Potsdam, and golfs during the summer.
