Compeau Named Executive Officer Of Society For Consumer Psychology

POTSDAM, N.Y. -- Larry D. Compeau of Canton, associate professor of Marketing in the Clarkson University School of Business, has been elected executive officer of the Society for Consumer Psychology, a division of the American Psychological Association.

Based in Washington, D.C., the American Psychological Association (APA) is the largest scientific and professional organization representing psychology in the United States. With more than 159,000 members, APA is also the largest association of psychologists worldwide.   

Compeau is widely known for his work in consumer psychology, specifically in the area of behavioral pricing and price advertising. His selection reflects his reputation as a researcher and his long-term active membership in the Society.

The Society for Consumer Psychology is an international interdisciplinary organization that represents the interests of behavioral scientists in the fields of psychology, marketing, advertising, communication, and consumer behavior.

"Our mission is to advance the discipline through the generation and dissemination of knowledge related to consumer psychology, to promote educational and research opportunities for its members, and to foster interaction,” said Compeau.

“With over 600 members from around the globe, I am more than flattered to be presented with this wonderful opportunity to provide the Clarkson University School of Business with the tremendous visibility that comes with being the home for the Society for Consumer Psychology. I look forward to providing strategic leadership as well as administrative oversight of the Society."

Compeau has been a Clarkson faculty member since 1991.

The Society publishes the Journal of Consumer Psychology, a premier interdisciplinary journal publishing high quality research, the Advertising and Consumer Psychology Book Series, annual conference proceedings and a newsletter. Each year the Society sponsors a national conference program in conjunction with the annual meeting of the American Psychological Association
(APA), a national conference program immediately preceding the Winter American Marketing Association (AMA) conference, and the Psychology and Advertising Conference in conjunction with advertising agencies and companies.
