Clarkson Hockey Team Enters Post-season Play

The Clarkson University Golden Knights have won their third ECAC hockey regular season title in five seasons. They host the University of Vermont Catamounts in the first round of the ECAC playoffs this Friday and Saturday night at Cheel Arena in Potsdam. Face-off is at 7 p.m. on both nights. A third and deciding game, if necessary, will be played on Sunday evening at 7 p.m.

The Golden Knights go into this weekend as one of the hottest teams in all of college hockey. Winners of 14 of their last 17, they are ranked number nine in the country in both the USA Today/American Hockey magazine and U.S. College Hockey Online polls.  Two wins this weekend will send the Golden Knights back to the ECAC semifinals in Lake Placid for a chance to win the tournament title and receive an automatic bid to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Men’s Division I Hockey Championships.

There is no place like home, especially when home is Cheel Arena, where Clarkson truly enjoys a home-ice advantage. During the playoffs, when the stakes are higher, the fans respond. Little wonder, then, that the Golden Knights have been unbeatable on the Cheel surface: 17-0 since the arena opened in 1991.

Clarkson University invites you to come out and support a team that boasts exciting young stars like ECAC Rookie of the Year Candidate Rob McFeeters and impenetrable goalie Mike Walsh, and battle-tested veterans such as David Evans, Matt Poapst, Kerry Ellis-Toddington and co-captains Don Smith, Murray Kuntz and Kent Huskins, a candidate for the Hobey Baker Award, which is given annually to the nation’s most outstanding college player.

If you’ve always wanted to see a Clarkson game this year, but have never been able to get your hands on some tickets, now is your chance. Clarkson students will be on spring break, so plenty of good seats are still available for $8. To purchase tickets, stop by the Cheel Arena box office or call 315-268-7750. Visa and MasterCard are accepted.
