Ortmeyer Appointed Electrical And Computer Engineering Department Chair

Thomas H. Ortmeyer of Potsdam, professor of electrical and computer engineering at Clarkson University, has been named chair of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, effective June 1.

Ortmeyer replaces Associate Professor Susan E. Conry, who has held the chair for the last five years and is returning to teaching duties.

Clarkson University Vice President for Academic Affairs Anthony G. Collins says Ortmeyer “brings a combination of successful experience in teaching and scholarly activity to the position that will be put to good use in leading the department as they strive to meet their scholarly and student educational needs.”

Ortmeyer joined Clarkson in 1979 and has served on numerous University committees during his tenure. He has also held a visiting professorship in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Kumamoto University in Japan and was the recipient of Summer Faculty Fellowships at Wright Aeronautical Laboratories on the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio, and the Lewis Research Center in Cleveland. Ortmeyer is also involved in various community activities including the Adirondack Mountain Club.
