Two Clarkson University Professors Granted Tenure And Promoted

Clarkson University President Denny Brown has announced that Michal Borkovec of the Department of Chemistry and Rajesh Sethi of the School of Business, both of Potsdam, have been granted tenure and promoted.

Michal Borkovec of Potsdam, who was promoted to professor, came to Clarkson in 1998 as an associate professor of chemistry. He previously served as a lecturer at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich and held a post-doctoral position at the University of Basel in Switzerland.

His research interests include static and dynamic light scattering in colloidal particle dispersions, surfactant systems and polymer solutions; adsorption of simple ions from aqueous solutions to colloidal and polymeric matrices; stabilization and flocculation in colloidal particle systems; and deposition and release of colloidal particles through porous media. He has consulting experience with BASF Ludwigshafen of Germany and Boehringer-Mannheim, also of Germany.

Borkovec is a member of the American Chemical Society, the International Association of Colloid and Interface Science and Kolloid Gesellschaft.

He received his bachelor's degree in chemistry from the University of Berne and his master's and doctoral degrees in chemical physics from Columbia University.

Rajesh Sethi of Potsdam, who was promoted to associate professor, joined Clarkson University in 1994 as an instructor and became an assistant professor of marketing in 1995. In 1997, he was chosen as the recipient of the Outstanding New Teacher Award. His Ph.D. dissertation was selected as one of the top three dissertations and received an honorable mention in the American Marketing Association's Doctoral Dissertation Competition in 1996. Prior to Clarkson, he was a lecturer at the Joseph M. Katz School of Business at the University of Pittsburgh.

His research interests are in the areas of new product development, cross-functional teams, using the World Wide Web for new product development, e-supply chain management, and electronic commerce.

Sethi has published his research in prestigious journals such as the Journal of Marketing, Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, and Journal of Product Innovation Management. He is also a reviewer for these journals.

Prior to his academic career, he had over ten years of professional experience in industry. He has held various managerial positions with a subsidiary of Toyota Motor Corporation in the areas of new product development, marketing, supply chain management, and project management.

Sethi holds a bachelor's degree with distinction in electrical engineering from Delhi University, India, a master's degree from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, India, and a doctoral degree in business administration from the University of Pittsburgh.
