Clarkson Hosts Executive Seminar On Global Supply Chain Management

Twenty-five executives and managers from 16 companies in 11 states will meet at Clarkson University for the Global Supply Chain Management Executive Seminar, which begins Wednesday, August 8, and ends on Saturday, August 11. Among those participating are individuals from such corporate heavyweights as Accenture, Bank of America, Carrier Corporation, Corning Inc., Dell Computer Corporation, Delta Air Lines, General Electric, General Motors Powertrain, Grainger, ITT Industries and Xerox Corporation.

“Clarkson is developing an educational niche in supply chain management that extends from undergraduate and graduate programs to executive education,” said Farzad Mahmoodi, professor of operations management and director of the Center for Global Competitiveness. “This is the first executive seminar we have offered and the response has been tremendous.”

The seminar is designed for middle- and high-level managers who want to learn how to maximize the effectiveness of supply chain integration to reduce cycle time, improve customer service and reduce variations in their operations. Supply chain management is primarily concerned with the efficient integration of suppliers, factories, warehouses and stores, so that goods are produced in the right quantities and sent to the right locations at the right times, to minimize total system cost subject to satisfying customer requirements.

Mahmoodi will be leading the seminar along with other School of Business faculty including Brian O’Neil, professor of operations management and director of the graduate business programs; Somendra Pant, assistant professor of management information systems; Peter Diplock, assistant professor of organizational studies; and Michael Ensby, director of the interdisciplinary engineering and management program. Bobbi Baillargeon is serving as the seminar coordinator.

The Center for Global Competitiveness at Clarkson University is a center of excellence within the School of Business that enhances the competitive positions of organizations worldwide by providing educational experiences in interdisciplinary engineering and management.
