Clarkson University Chapter Of Alpha Chi Rho Fraternity Receives National Honors

The Clarkson University chapter of the Alpha Chi Rho Fraternity recently received two national awards for outstanding leadership and commitment to fraternal ideals.

The Zeta Phi chapter of Alpha Chi Rho, located at 77 Elm St. in Potsdam, was one of three chapters nationally to receive the Bedford Award in recognition of “the most outstanding executive leadership.” The local chapter was also one of three chapters to receive the R.B. Stewart Award in recognition of “outstanding chapter operations with a house.”

The awards are presented by the Alpha Chi Rho National Fraternity of Neptune, New Jersey.

Two members of Zeta Phi were also singled out for individual honors. Robert A. Curto ’03 (civil and environmental engineering, Cohoes, N.Y.), one of the chapter’s newest members, received the Coughlin Scholarship for $500 in recognition of his outstanding academic achievement, and was also nominated for the Outstanding Brother of the Year Award. Chapter President Francis K. “Frank” McAlpin ’02 (industrial engineering and management, Webster, N.Y.) was nominated for the prestigious William H. Rouse Award, which recognizes the chapter president “who has demonstrated excellence in chapter and inter-fraternal leadership.”

“Alpha Chi Rho is a well-rounded chapter that excels in academics, philanthropy and campus involvement,” says Jason C. Libby, coordinator of Greek Affairs at Clarkson University. The chapter topped the academic rosters, ranking first among campus fraternities in cumulative grade point average. This past semester the chapter, with the help of several other Clarkson fraternities and sororities, donated over $1,000 to the American Cancer Society through its first annual basketball tournament.

Clarkson University fraternities and sororities must meet high standards of academic performance, conduct and community service.
