Clarkson University Names Babu Vice Provost For Research

S.V. Babu of Potsdam, director of Clarkson University’s Center for Advanced Materials Processing (CAMP), has been named vice provost for Research. Babu will continue to serve as director of CAMP and provide leadership for the Division of Research and other research centers.

“In his new position, Babu will be able to build upon his many strengths in the research arena,” said Provost Anthony G. Collins. “His leadership as the director of CAMP has been exemplary and his expertise will be vital to assisting the development of visionary opportunities, strategies and policies necessary to elevate our research activities.”

Babu joined Clarkson in 1981 as an associate professor of chemical engineering. His current research includes improving methods of chemical mechanical polishing, a technique used to create surfaces which are smooth at the nanolevel, an essential step in the manufacture of computer chips.

Babu became CAMP’s director last November after spending 13 months as its interim director.
