Clarkson First Runner-up In Entrepreneurship Education Competition

Clarkson University’s undergraduate business and entrepreneurship curriculum received national recognition earlier this week when it was chosen as the first runner-up for the prestigious 2002 National Award in Undergraduate Entrepreneurship Education. The award is sponsored by the United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship (USASBE) and recognizes innovative and effective undergraduate entrepreneurship education.

“We were honored to be chosen as a finalist and have an opportunity to showcase the innovative programs we have developed in recent years to support undergraduate entrepreneurship education,” said Timothy Sugrue, dean of the Clarkson School of Business and one of the presenters. “We received some terrific feedback from the judges’ panel. They commended Clarkson’s emphasis on experiential learning and our strong presentation, and expressed genuine interest in seeing additional evidence of our programs’ successes down the road.”

Clarkson was one of two finalists invited to make a presentation on its undergraduate entrepreneurship program before a panel of judges at the USASBE’s Annual Conference in Reno, Nevada, last week. The other finalist was the University of Arizona.

Shipley Center for Leadership and Entrepreneurship Executive Director Stub Estey, Entrepreneurship Programs Director Marc Compeau, and “Venture@Moore House” student CEO Jess Conklin assisted Sugrue in making the final presentation.
