Clarkson University has given a $30,000 contribution to the Village of Potsdam to assist with meeting community needs.

Clarkson contributes $30,000 annually to the Village of Potsdam, and has done so for nearly 20 years. Over that time period, Clarkson’s direct contributions to the community amount to nearly $600,000.villagedonations2002

“We work in partnership with the Village,” explained President Denny Brown. “Clarkson and the Village have a mutual interest in enhancing the vitality of Potsdam, and I am happy to see Clarkson’s contributions put to good use.”

“I appreciate the fact that Clarkson, as a tax-exempt organization, voluntarily makes a direct contribution to the Village,” said Mayor Ruth Garner. “In addition to the funding given each year, Clarkson has also helped to bring new businesses to the downtown. I want to personally thank Clarkson for its commitment to the community.”

In March, the Village Board identified key needs for which Clarkson’s contribution would be used. This year’s allocation will purchase a police car, replacing the Police Department’s oldest vehicle, and a new sand spreading unit for a Village truck.
