She has been a Presidential Scholar for the last eight semesters and has received numerous academic and leadership awards, including the George L. Jones Jr. Award in Chemistry, the Clarkson Commendable Leadership Award in 2002 and 2003, and the Clarkson Commendable Service Award. Griffiths also was a recipient of an American Chemical Society (ACS) Organic Division Travel Award.

Griffiths has been actively involved in research at Clarkson, including working as a research assistant in the laboratory of Chemistry Professor Richard E. Partch on a project involving chemical mechanical polishing, a technique used in sub-micron computer chip manufacturing. She has also been a teaching assistant for courses in organic chemistry and freshman chemistry.

Griffiths participated in the National Science Foundation's International Research Program in 2001 at the Université Bordeaux in Bordeaux, France, and in 2002 at the Université Louis Pasteur in Strasbourg.

She was a recipient of the prestigious Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship in 2001. The Goldwater Scholarship is the preeminent undergraduate award for students pursuing careers in the fields of mathematics, the natural science, and engineering. Griffiths was one of only 302 undergraduates in the country selected that year based on academic merit.

This fall, Griffiths will begin a doctoral degree program in chemistry at the University of California at Los Angeles.
