Clarkson University To Host National Conference On Technical And Scientific Communication

Clarkson University’s Department of Technical Communications will host the 30th annual conference of the Council for Programs in Technical and Scientific Communication (CPTSC) October 2-4.

More than 100 scholars from across North America will meet on the Clarkson campus to present papers and share views on communication issues related to digital media, information architecture, open source programming, Web-based learning environments, and on-line technical communication.

“We are excited to have so many of our colleagues visit Clarkson and share the wide range of research and program development that is occurring in our discipline,” said Bill Karis, chair of Clarkson’s Department of Technical Communications.  “It’s both an excellent opportunity for us to showcase our program and also a wonderful chance for our students to meet with and interact with many scholars whose work our students read and study in their classes.”

This year’s keynote speaker is Professor Anthony Paré, Chair of the Department of Integrated Studies of Education at McGill University in Montreal, who will deliver a talk titled, “Re-situating Knowledge: Exchange Rates at the Border.”  Paré’s lecture will address problems individuals face as they negotiate borders in their transition from school to work or in shifts between worksites.

CPTSC’s primary purposes include promoting programs and research, developing opportunities for the exchange of ideas and information, and assisting in the development and evaluation of new programs in technical and scientific communication.  Many of the conference participants are program directors and chairs of technical and scientific communication programs across the nation.
