Clarkson Consulting Group Provides Innovative And Reliable Consulting Services To North Country

Now in its 15th year of operation, the Clarkson Consulting Group (CCG) continues to distinguish itself as a major provider of integrated and cost-effective business solutions to area businesses and nonprofit organizations. 

CCG is part of an advanced business course at the Clarkson University School of Business that brings teams of student consultants together with clients who seek information related to marketing research, growth and expansion, feasibility studies, Internet technology, organizational development, or other business issues. 

This past semester, Clarkson students successfully completed eight major consulting projects, resulting in the development of practical and innovative tools customized to meet the specific needs of each individual client. 

“The Clarkson Consulting Group is a unique asset in that it offers corporations, area businesses, and entrepreneurs top-notch consulting services at a cost significantly lower than market value,” said E.E. “Stub” Estey, director of Consulting Services for Clarkson. “At the same time, students gain practical business experience and refine essential skills that give them a competitive edge when they leave the University.” 

“Each client is paired with a CCG consultant team, consisting of a lead student consultant and five-to-six student team members, most of whom are candidates for a Clarkson MBA,” explained Estey. The teams draw on the combined strengths and expertise of its members, as well as the exceptional training, technical resources, and staff support offered through Clarkson’s internationally renowned programs. As a result, CCG teams are able to provide a wide range of comprehensive services, including market research and analysis, economic impact and feasibility studies, technology expansion and integration, business operations analysis, organizational development, and other business expertise. 

In addressing the needs of CCG client Pease & Gustafson LLP, a student consulting team conducted a workflow analysis of the law firm’s current operations and after thorough assessment, recommended a redesigned system that would greatly improve the firm’s ability to monitor and manage document flow, operational tasks, and overall work progress. The new system, which is currently being implemented, will result in optimal performance for Pease & Gustafson and ultimately the firm’s clients. “The CCG team did a great job putting together an action plan that we believe will help us effectively manage the office,” said Eric Gustafson, partner of Pease & Gustafson. 

Other recent consulting projects undertaken by CCG included assisting Partners in Women’s Health, LLP with operational analysis and recommendations to long-term goals, staffing needs and concerns, as well as overall systems improvements. A CCG team also worked with Potsdam-based KUNOCO, providing a market analysis and marketing plan for reselling computers and accessories in conjunction with that company’s plan to expand into a new and growing segment. Teams have also developed Web sites for the Potsdam Police Department and Hyde-Stone Corporation. 

The Heuvelton Historical Association, a nonprofit organization, secured the help of CCG to perform a market assessment, including cost and revenue projections, for use of the space available in Pickens Hall, a 150-year-old, three-story stone building the association owns in downtown Heuvelton. Upon completion of the project, Heuvelton Mayor Barbara Lashua commented, “It is exciting to know that the information the Clarkson Consulting Group compiled will play a role in the rebirth of a historic downtown business district.” 

The CCG also provided services to Clarkson University itself, helping the University develop a marketing and sales plan to sell 1,800 prints of original art donated by a gallery in Canada. Final products included an online gallery as well as the formation of an independent company to continue facilitation of the sales efforts. 

“Area businesses utilize the expertise of the CCG and are able to implement strategies that are reliable, practical and cost-effective,” noted Estey.
