Three Clarkson Students Receive Scholarships From National Starch and Chemical Company

Three Clarkson University Chemical Engineering undergraduates were recently awarded scholarships totaling $3,000 by the National Starch and Chemical Company, a global specialty chemical manufacturer based in Bridgewater, N.J.

Sophomore Elizabeth Schongar (Troy, N.Y.) and juniors Bryan Beckingham (Holley, N.Y.) and Andrew Maslyn (Rochester, N.Y.) were each awarded $1,000 for their outstanding scholastic achievement.

"The scholarships are well-merited and the students receiving them are very deserving," said Associate Professor and Associate Chair of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering Richard J. McCluskey. "These students have outstanding academic records and bright futures ahead of them."

The National Starch and Chemical Company is a leading manufacturer of adhesives; specialty synthetic polymers; electronic and engineering materials; and specialty food, healthcare and industrial starches.

"The company is a strong supporter of our students and our programs here at Clarkson," added McCluskey. "They have provided scholarships to outstanding students at Clarkson for the past several years and actively recruit our graduates.”

Along with providing scholarships to recognize outstanding students in the chemical and biomolecular engineering undergraduate programs, the National Starch and Chemical Company also provides financial support to the Clarkson student chapter of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers.
