Elwood "Skip" Leonard has joined Clarkson University as vice president of Development and Alumni Relations. In this role, Leonard will define the University's vision for philanthropy, manage the development function and oversee alumni relations. Skip Leonard

Leonard joins Clarkson from Furman University, Greenville, S.C., where he oversaw a $400 million endowment and was responsible for raising over $20 million annually. He was director of development at Pomfret, a Connecticut boarding school, and at Bryant University in Smithfield, R.I. Leonard has also held staff positions with the U.S. House of Representatives and in county and city government. He received a bachelor's degree from Ohio Wesleyan University and master's degrees from the University of Kansas and Harvard University.

"Skip comes to Clarkson with a proven expertise in managing comprehensive capital campaigns for higher-education institutions and he possesses the leadership skills which will be required to carry us through the next critical phase of growing our endowment," remarked Clarkson President Tony Collins. "He possesses the enthusiasm and professional skills to significantly strengthen our development activities."

Leonard's appointment marks a transition for Kelly O. Chezum who had continued to direct the corporate and foundations area pending the appointment of Leonard and the search for a new director of Corporate and Foundations. Relinquishing the corporate and foundations role will allow Chezum to manage the significant increase in marketing and external relations efforts seen during her leadership of that area.

"Clarkson is fortunate to have an individual in Kelly who is both flexible and talented to provide leadership in an area critical to Clarkson's reputation and, therefore, future," noted Collins.
