Clarkson University Fraternities and Sororities Again Recognized for Academic Excellence

Clarkson University fraternity and sorority community has been honored again with a national award for its high academic achievement.

Clarkson sororities and fraternities attained a grade-point average that is above the all-student university average of any college with fraternities and sororities in the Northeast region of the United States for the fall of 2005.

This is the fifth time since the award was created in the spring of 2002 that the Clarkson fraternity/sorority community has been honored.

In the past 16 semesters, the Clarkson all-sorority and all-fraternity average has been higher than the all-female and all-male average, respectively, for all but one semester.

For the past eight years the chapters have shown that their academic performance is a priority for their organization and their members, said Jason C. Libby, associate dean of students for Student Organizations at Clarkson. To be awarded this distinction five times in the seven semesters it has been awarded is an amazing accomplishment.

Clarkson University fraternities and sororities must meet high standards of academic performance, conduct, and community service. Since the fall of 2001, Clarkson University fraternities and sororities have raised over $82,000 for charities and performed over 20,000 hours of volunteer service in the local community.
