U.S. News: Clarkson University in Top Tier of National Universities

Supply Chain Management Program Ranked 11th in Nation

This year, Clarkson University is also the subject of an article in the U.S. News America's Best Colleges guidebook and online edition, which features Clarkson students and President Tony Collins.

Clarkson students engage in a rigorous curriculum that mirrors the scholarly strengths and pursuits of our faculty by spanning boundaries across disciplines, nations and cultures, said Collins. "Rankings like these, along with the success of our faculty in major grant competitions, demonstrate that Clarkson is on the leading edge of today's emerging technologies and fields of study. Our unique niche in differentiating our educational experience is propelling our graduates to lead the new global economy. I am delighted that the quality of a Clarkson education has been recognized by our peer institutions through their input into these rankings."

Clarkson's Supply Chain Management program, highly acclaimed by employers of Clarkson graduates, was listed among the 20 best in the nation for the sixth consecutive year, ranked number 11 in Supply Chain Management/Logistics. "We are honored to be counted among these elite programs," said Timothy F. Sugrue, dean of the School of Business. "I am happy that our faculty's hard work and excellence has been appropriately recognized."

Clarkson's undergraduate engineering program, ranked at 85 for Best Undergraduate Engineering Programs whose highest degree is a doctorate, has also been consistently listed among the top in the nation. "It's always good to see in print, what our students, alumni and companies around the world know already -- that Clarkson is indeed one of the best engineering schools in the country," said Goodarz Ahmadi, dean of the Wallace H. Coulter School of Engineering. "Our rigorous curriculum emphasizes multidisciplinary, team-based, development of technologies that are socially responsible and serve humanity. Our program gives Clarkson students a distinct advantage when they join the work force. In fact, almost 100 percent of our engineering graduates receive a job offer prior to graduation."

Proving the old adage that bigger isn't always better, with only 3,000 students, Clarkson is one of the smallest universities included in the U.S. News top tier of national universities, and one of the few top schools not located in a metropolitan area.

Also, when considering only the private universities included in the top schools list, Clarkson ranks in the top-60 of private national universities.

Each year U.S. News surveys more than 1,400 accredited four-year institutions for their annual "Best Colleges" issue. To be considered for the "National Universities" category, the institutions must offer a wide range of undergraduate majors as well as master's and doctoral degrees, and have research programs.

Clarkson University, located in Potsdam, New York, is a private, nationally ranked university with a reputation for developing innovative leaders in engineering, business, the sciences, health sciences and the humanities. At Clarkson, 3,000 high-ability students excel in an environment where learning is not only positive, friendly and supportive but spans the boundaries of traditional disciplines and knowledge. Faculty members achieve international recognition for their research and scholarship and connect students to their leadership potential in the marketplace through dynamic, real-world problem solving.
