The program, "Drop and Give Me Twenty - Bucks!," which collected donations from Clarkson Army ROTC alumni, originated with the collaborative efforts of Associate Vice President for Alumni Relations Steve Newkofsky, Lt. Col. John Hinrichs of the Military Science Department and alumnus Michael Santarcangelo, class of '73. ROTC packages

A total of 18 boxes were packed with a variety of amenities and Clarkson paraphernalia and sent to officers in Iraq, who ranged from new second lieutenants to majors.

Items included non-perishable food, magazines, newsletters, holiday cards signed by students, Clarkson mugs and Clarkson holiday ornaments. President Tony Collins and Newkofsky personally packed Clarkson pennants with a request that photographs of the officers holding their pennants be sent back in return.

There has already been a wave of appreciation from the soldiers with e-mails and letters home. Colton, N.Y., native Captain Gregory P. Stone, class of 2000, wrote, "All the officers I work with have commented that you can tell the quality of an ROTC program by how they treat their alumni, and this goes to prove the continued quality of Clarkson ROTC. Again thank you for your support and prayers! GO KNIGHTS!!"
