Three Clarkson University Army ROTC Cadets Commissioned

Three students from Clarkson University's Army ROTC Golden Knight Battalion became U.S. Army Officers during a commissioning ceremony held in December.Commissioning

Gerrit F. Dykstra of Peekskill, N.Y., Tyrome Hairston of Black River, N.Y., and Andrew Dalton of West Point, N.Y., took their oath of office and had their gold bars pinned on by their parents, becoming second lieutenants during the ceremony.

Gerrit Dykstra is receiving his e-business degree from Clarkson University. Lt. Dykstra was commissioned into the Armor branch and will attend training at Fort Knox, Ky.

Andrew Dalton graduated with a politics degree from SUNY Potsdam. Lt. Dalton was commissioned into the Military Intelligence Corps and will receive initial training at Fort Huachuca, Ariz. He received his oath of office from his father, Lt. Col. Jim Dalton.

The commissioning also featured remarks by the Clarkson Professor of Military Science Lt. Col. John Hinrichs, Clarkson Provost Thomas Young and SUNY Potsdam Provost Margaret Madden.

The winter commissioning was hosted by SUNY Potsdam.
