Sturges Manufacturing President Elected Clarkson University Trustee

Clarkson University alumnus Richard R. Griffith, president and chairman of the board of Sturges Manufacturing Company in Utica, N.Y., has been elected to Clarkson's board of trustees. He will serve on the institutional advancement committee. R. Griffith elected to board of trustees

Griffith graduated from Clarkson University in 1969 with a bachelor of science degree in industrial distribution. He received a master of business administration degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1985.

He has been employed at Sturges Manufacturing since 1971 when he joined the corporation as a manufacturing engineer. From 1979-1992 he served as vice president of operations before being appointed president in 1992.

Griffith has served as a trustee for a number of civic and charitable organizations in the Mohawk Valley, including St Luke's-Memorial Hospital Center, Munson-Williams Proctor Arts Institute, Mohawk Valley Network, the Slocum Dickson Foundation and the Mohawk Valley Heart Institute. He currently serves as a director for Utica First Insurance Company, Commercial Travelers Mutual Insurance Company and the M & T Bank Advisory Board for the Central New York Region.

Griffith has been an active Clarkson Alumni Association volunteer and has served as host for regional chapter events. He is a past member of the Alumni National Executive Council and served as a Clarkson Fund Chair and Clarkson Roundtable Chair. He received the University's highest alumni honor, the Golden Knight Award, in 2004.

Griffith and his wife, Connie, reside in Utica and Alexandria Bay. Their son, Tyler, graduated from Clarkson in 2001.
