Clarkson University Professor Amy K. Zander, director of the school’s Interdisciplinary Engineering & Management (IE&M) program, has been named a 2008 Trendsetter by Public Works magazine.

The publication recognized Zander for reshaping the curriculum of the IE&M program to incorporate environmental considerations into decision-making. The magazine wrote that the program was now preparing students to take into account social responsibility, corporate citizenship, and environmental consequences in business and technological decisions.zander

Zander, previously an associate dean in Clarkson’s Wallace H. Coulter School of Engineering, was named director of IE&M last January. An expert in the areas of physical and chemical separations in environmental systems, especially drinking water and wastewater treatment technologies, she has been a faculty member at Clarkson since 1991.

Clarkson University launches leaders into the global economy. One in six alumni already leads as a CEO, VP or equivalent senior executive of a company. Located just outside the Adirondack Park in Potsdam, N.Y., Clarkson is a nationally recognized research university for undergraduates with select graduate programs in signature areas of academic excellence directed toward the world’s pressing issues. Through 50 rigorous programs of study in engineering, business, arts, sciences and health sciences, the entire learning-living community spans boundaries across disciplines, nations and cultures to build powers of observation, challenge the status quo, and connect discovery and engineering innovation with enterprise.
