Clarkson University’s WCKN TV to Broadcast Zootoo Visit to Potsdam Animal Shelter

Hundreds rallied in support of the Potsdam Animal Shelter on March 17 as officials from visited the shelter as part of their million-dollar shelter makeover contest.

The event will be broadcast on WCKN channel 30 Time Warner Cable on Monday, March 30, at 7p.m. The program will re-air on Tuesday, March 31, at 7 p.m.

The March 17 rally was attended by 300-400 local residents. Clarkson University employees, college students, and K-12 students from Potsdam, Madrid, Lisbon, and Canton were all there to welcome Richard Thompson, the founder of Zootoo.

The visit was part of his nationwide tour of the top-20 semi-finalists in the makeover contest. The Potsdam Animal Shelter will be represented in Las Vegas on April 7 when the top-10 finalists will be announced.

Clarkson University’s Pep Band and Social Activism class were integral in helping the shelter get enough e-mail sponsors to achieve its current top-15 point status in this contest. If selected, the Shelter could win the grand prize of $1 million, or one of several runner-up prizes ranging from $5,000 to $50,000.

Finalists are chosen based on the needs of the shelter, and, most importantly, by the level of support that the community shows for its shelter, and the programs and outreach that each shelter provides to its community. is a Web site dedicated to bringing pet lovers together, and raising awareness of local shelters, encouraging local communities to become more involved in and committed to the welfare of homeless animals.
