Clarkson University Prof Double Prize Winner at Conference

Clarkson University Assistant Professor of Humanities and Social Sciences Alexandra Hennessy was recently a double prize winner at the 2009 conference of the European Union Studies Association (EUSA) in Los Angeles.Hennessy

Her Ph.D. thesis, titled "Economist Interests, Domestic Constraints, and the Creation of a European Single Pension Market," won the best dissertation award, which carried a cash prize of $ 250.

The prize is awarded biannually to a dissertation written on any aspect of European integration.

At the same ceremony, Hennessy also received honorary mention for best conference paper presented at the previous EUSA conference in 2005. The paper, which is part of Hennessy’s dissertation, analyzes bargaining failure and success over pension market integration in Europe. It was published in the British Journal of Politics and International Relations in 2008.

Hennessy received her Ph.D. degree in political science from Boston University in 2008. Prior to joining Clarkson University, Hennessy was a fellow at the University of Rochester’s Skalny Center.
