Lin has been an exemplary educator in the Department of Mechanical & Aeronautical Engineering and influenced generations of students at the undergraduate level.

He advised to graduation more than 45 graduate and doctorate-level candidates, many of whom are now leaders in their companies and institutions. His four former post-doctoral fellows from abroad are today successful leaders in their fields in their own countries

Lin played a crucial role in the initiation of Clarkson’s Aeronautical Engineering Program in 1990 with assistance in the form of an initiation grant from the United Technologies Corporation. He implemented the new degree program by serving as chair of the Department of Mechanical & Aeronautical Engineering when it graduated its first class of 10 students in 1994, the year the program received full accreditation from the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology.

Lin contributed important research in fluid mechanics and thermal sciences, including liquid film coating, atomization, and interfacial phenomena, and published his research results through more than 120 articles in prestigious archival journals. He authored the textbook Breakup of Liquid Sheets and Jets, and that authored chapters in several books, including the highly regarded Annual Review of Fluid Mechanics.

He has been honored with the rank of fellow in three professional societies: the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the American Physical Society, and the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.

Clarkson University launches leaders into the global economy. One in six alumni already leads as a CEO, VP or equivalent senior executive of a company. Located just outside the Adirondack Park in Potsdam, N.Y., Clarkson is a nationally recognized research university for undergraduates with select graduate programs in signature areas of academic excellence directed toward the world’s pressing issues. Through 50 rigorous programs of study in engineering, business, arts, sciences and health sciences, the entire learning-living community spans boundaries across disciplines, nations and cultures to build powers of observation, challenge the status quo, and connect discovery and engineering innovation with enterprise.
