Princeton Review: Clarkson University One of Nation’s Best Colleges

Clarkson University has again been named one of the country’s best institutions for undergraduate education and one of the nation’s most environmentally friendly colleges, according to The Princeton Review.

The company features Clarkson in the new 2011 edition of its guidebook, "The Best 373 Colleges." Only about 15 percent of America’s 2,500 four-year colleges and two Canadian colleges are profiled in the book.

"We’re always happy to be included in the Best Colleges book, but surveys, statistics and books don’t tell the full story," said Dean of Admissions Brian T. Grant. "Our students confirm that the best way to get to know Clarkson is by coming to campus for a personalized visit and meeting them and our faculty."

"We commend Clarkson University for its outstanding academics, which is the primary criteria for our selection of schools for the book," said Robert Franek, Princeton Review’s senior VP / publishing and author of "The Best 373 Colleges."

Clarkson has also been named one of the best colleges in the Northeast by Princeton Review, which identified some of the colleges and universities that they feel "stand out within a region." "We’re pleased to recommend Clarkson University to readers of our book and users of our site as one of the best schools to earn their undergrad degree," said Franek.

In addition, Clarkson received a high green rating of 88 in Princeton Review’s third annual green ratings of colleges, a measure of how environmentally friendly the institutions are, on a scale of 60 to 99.

The criteria for the rating cover three broad areas: 1. Whether students have a campus quality of life that is both healthy and sustainable; 2. How well a school is preparing students not only for employment in the clean energy economy of the 21st century, but also for citizenship in a world now defined by environmental challenges; and 3. How environmentally responsible a school’s policies are.

Clarkson is consistently among the schools ranked well in both The Princeton Review and U.S. News & World Report’s annual issue of "Best Colleges," where Clarkson is listed as a tier one national university. U.S. News also ranks the Clarkson School of Business Supply Chain Management Program as #14 in the nation and its engineering program among the top 100 nationwide.

Clarkson University launches leaders into the global economy. One in six alumni already leads as a CEO, VP or equivalent senior executive of a company. Located just outside the Adirondack Park in Potsdam, N.Y., Clarkson is a nationally recognized research university for undergraduates with select graduate programs in signature areas of academic excellence directed toward the world’s pressing issues. Through 50 rigorous programs of study in engineering, business, arts, sciences and health sciences, the entire learning-living community spans boundaries across disciplines, nations and cultures to build powers of observation, challenge the status quo, and connect discovery and engineering innovation with enterprise.
