Lynch Named Chief Information Officer at Clarkson University

Kevin P. Lynch has been named chief information officer at Clarkson University. He previously served as director of telecommunications/networking.klynch

Lynch’s focus in the coming year will be to expand the University’s reach of technology functions both internally and externally. He will use technology to improve effectiveness with 24/7 access to information, applications and forms.

One consequence of Lynch’s activities will be a greater emphasis on communications technology around campus in the form of signage, directories, and schedules. He will also promote efforts such as the Adirondack Initiative for Wired Work.

Lynch joined Clarkson in 2000 as an assistant professor of aerospace studies with Air Force ROTC. In 2002, he joined Collegis/SunGard as a technical director for the Clarkson Office of Information Technology. During his time with SunGard, Lynch successfully oversaw the implementation of several key technology systems and was promoted by Collegis to the position of chief information officer for the Clarkson site in 2008. Lynch officially joined the Clarkson staff in April 2010.

Lynch has presented at several national and regional conferences, including Educause and NERCOMP on topics including cyber ethics, process review, and using Blackboard to increase enrollment yields.

Regionally, Lynch is very active in the promotion and deployment of broadband infrastructure. For the past three years, he has served on the St. Lawrence County Information Technology Committee, where he helped lead the effort to create the first IT strategic plan for the county. Lynch is also involved in the Adirondack Initiative for Wired Work, a regional effort to promote broadband adoption and access to serve as an economic engine for environmentally responsible growth.

Prior to coming to Clarkson, Lynch served five years on active duty in the US Air Force as a communication and information officer, was a distinguished graduate of the basic communication officer training course, achieved the rank of captain, and was recognized as the Air Mobility Command C&I Professional of the Year.

Lynch has a bachelor of science degree from SUNY Oneonta and a master of arts from Webster University.

Lynch resides in Norwood, N.Y., with his wife, Alycia, and their three children.
