Clarkson University Mechanical & Aeronautical Engineering Professor Pier Marzocca has been appointed deputy editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Aeronautical and Space Sciences (IJASS), an international journal of the Korean Society for Aeronautical & Space Sciences (KSAS).

Clarkson University Mechanical & Aeronautical Engineering Professor Pier MarzoccaThe journal aims to enhance and foster the aeronautical and space sciences and technologies through the publication of original research papers, review articles, and short communications disclosing new advancements in theoretical, computational and/or experimental research.

Topics of interest include all aspects of aerospace science and technology, which include acoustics, aerodynamics and fluid mechanics, aerospace telecommunications, airworthiness and maintenance, avionics, combustion and propulsion, flight dynamics, guidance and control, flight simulation and operations, low carbon manufacturing, nano application, plasmas and lasers, research instrumentation and facilities, space exploration, structural dynamics and aeroelasticity, structures and materials, and thermomechanics and reacting flows.

IJASS also addresses the ground and flight tests of aerospace systems including aircraft, air ship, helicopter, MEMS, missile, satellite, rocket, and unmanned aerial vehicles.

The journal solicits papers from a wide range of countries. Acceptance of a submitted paper will depend on a rigorous technical review and on the judgment of the editors. Marzocca is handling submitted and invited research review papers, and is the primary coordinator for journal activities in the United States.

Marzocca’s research interests lie in aeronautics and applied energy. He has been working in the field of aerospace engineering since 1996 and specializes in multi-physics modeling and characterization of advanced materials and structures, dealing with the interactions among advanced structures and fluids, magnetic, electric, and thermal fields.

His expertise is in structural dynamics and controls of advanced aerospace and wind energy systems, including active flow and aeroelastic controls of flexible structures, and unmanned aerial vehicle systems.

His research has been published in 80 peer-reviewed publications and he has delivered more than 150 conference and invited presentations. He has been the recipient or co-recipient of over $6.5 million in research funding from industry, government and non-profit agencies.

Marzocca has been a faculty member in the Department of Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering at Clarkson since 2003. He received his doctoral degree in aerospace engineering from Politecnico di Torino, Italy, and worked as a postdoctoral researcher and visiting assistant professor in engineering science and mechanics at Virginia Tech before coming to Clarkson.
