Austin & Sarkisian to Receive Clarkson University Honorary Degrees May 11

Wanda M. Austin and Mark P. Sarkisian will be awarded honorary degrees at Clarkson University's 120th commencement on Saturday, May 11.

Clarkson University's May 2012 CommencementEach honorary degree recipient will briefly address the students, their families and guests about a topic central to their success in life.

Austin is president and chief executive officer of the Aerospace Corporation, a leading architect for the nation’s national security space programs. She is internationally recognized for her work in satellite and payload system acquisition, systems engineering, and system simulation. Austin served on President Obama’s Review of Human Spaceflight Plans Committee in 2009 and in 2010 was appointed to the Defense Science Board.

Sarkisian is the director of seismic and structural engineering in the San Francisco office of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP. Sarkisian’s career has focused on developing innovative structural engineering solutions for more than 100 major building projects around the world, including the 421-meter-tall Jin Mao Tower in Shanghai, China; the U.S. Embassy in Beijing, China; the 412-meter-tall Al Hamra Fidrous Tower in Kuwait City, Kuwait; and the Cathedral of Christ the Light in Oakland, California.

Commencement weekend will also be marked by the commissioning of United States Army and Air Force ROTC cadets on Friday, May10.
