Melike Erol-Kantarci Appointed Assistant Professor of Electrical & Computer Engineering at Clarkson University

Melike Erol-Kantarci has been appointed assistant professor of electrical & computer engineering at Clarkson University.

Melike Erol-KantarciShe received her bachelor of science in control and computer engineering and master of science in computer engineering degrees from Istanbul Technical University; she pursued her Ph.D. thesis study at the University of California, Los Angeles; and she received her Ph.D. in computer engineering from Istanbul Technical University.

Before coming to Clarkson, she was coordinator of the Smart Grid Communications Lab at the University of Ottawa. Prior to that, she was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Ottawa and a lecturer at Istanbul Technical University.

Her research interests are in wireless communications, smart grids and microgrids; cyber-physical systems, electric vehicles; and wireless sensor networks.

Erol-Kantarci has delivered tutorials on electric vehicles and smart grid at distinguished conferences, presented refereed conference papers around the globe and discussed her work at invited seminars. She has co-authored 21 journal articles and 45 conference papers in top-quality journals, and co-authored eight book chapters. She received two outstanding/best paper awards. Her works have been cited more than 1000 times with an h-index of 18.

She contributed to grant proposals in the areas of smart grid and electric vehicles with total budgets more than $3 million.

Among her academic honors, she received a Fulbright Ph.D. Research Scholarship and the Siemens Excellence Award for MS Thesis. She also has been awarded several travel grants.

Erol-Kantarci is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

She is the past vice chair for IEEE Ottawa Women in Engineering, and has been a technical program committee member for numerous IEEE workshops and gatherings since 2012. Also in 2012, she helped organize the Women in Engineering Panel at International Conference on Communications. She serves on the editorial boards of scientific and scholarly journals for the International Journal of Distributed Sensor Networks.
