Clarkson Entrepreneur Coffee Will Fuel Ideas at United Nations for Women's Entrepreneurship Day

Nearly 100 pounds of Clarkson Entrepreneur Coffee will fuel the ideas of the participants in the inaugural Women's Entrepreneurship Day at the United Nations on Wednesday, November 19.

Clarkson Entrepreneur Coffee Clarkson University business students founded Entrepreneur Coffee as a way to support regional entrepreneurs -- investing 100 percent of their profits in small business development. The micro-roasted coffee brand is based at Clarkson’s Reh Center for Entrepreneurship and roasted locally by St. Lawrence Valley Roasters.

"Our Clarkson business students sell entrepreneur coffee across New York state and in the student-run MoJoe coffee shop on campus," says School of Business Dean Dayle Smith. "Running the coffee business at Clarkson is providing young entrepreneurs with hands-on experience in branding, and in owning and operating a business with a social mission."

Clarkson student entrepreneur Jamie Griffin, a sophomore information systems & business processes and communication double major from Bronx, N.Y., has been selected to attend Women's Entrepreneurship Day at the UN as a Student Ambassador. She also serves as human resource specialist in MoJoe.

Women’s Entrepreneurship Day is being billed as the world’s largest celebration of women innovators and job creators, who launch start-ups that bring ideas to life, drive economic growth and expand human welfare in 144 countries. A goal of the event is to "bring awareness to the 250 million girls living in poverty, who we will inspire and empower."

Entrepreneur, humanitarian, pet-lifestyle expert and animal advocate Wendy Diamond is the CEO and founder of Women's Entrepreneurship Day.  

“Empowering women worldwide and investing in their futures helps to drive and promote economic vitality and security locally and globally,” says Diamond. “Twenty-first century leadership skills, such as cooperation, communication, and sharing are more commonly associated with women. We want to celebrate the unwavering positives that women entrepreneurs bring to the global economy as well as inspire and support future generations of women.”

Clarkson's entrepreneurship program is one of the top 15 in the nation, according to the Princeton Review and Entrepreneur magazine. The two named Clarkson to their 2015 list of "Top 25 Colleges for Entrepreneurship Undergraduate Programs," where it ranks #14. Entrepreneur also notes Clarkson as one of "Five Schools That Cater to Undergrads Who Want to Be Tech Innovators," which lists entrepreneurship programs that highlight offering students the chance to develop new tech products. Forbes magazine ranks Clarkson in its top-50 list of "America's most entrepreneurial universities."

Entrepreneur Coffee uses only USDA certified organic coffee beans, and is managed in a certified sustainable office. Their beans are sourced from only organizations embracing fair trade practices.
