Clarkson University Professor Emeritus Donates Journal Access to Library

Abdul J. Jerri, professor emeritus in Clarkson University’s Division of Mathematics and Computer Science, has donated free access to Sampling Theory in Signal and Image Processing – An International Journal to the Clarkson University Libraries.

Abdul J. JerriJerri is the founding executive editor of the journal, which is housed in Clarkson's Division of Mathematics and Computer Science and published by Sampling Publishing in Potsdam, N.Y.

Library users will be able to access all volumes of the journal back to 2002, the year in which Jerri founded it, and for years to come.

The journal, which usually costs $120 per year, is published three times annually, along with a special issue of the Sampling Theory and Applications (SamTA) international conferences, which are held biannually around the world.

Sampling Theory in Signal and Image Processing is guided by more than 30 editors, who are top researchers from more than 20 countries, and is rated 40 among 400 journals in related subjects.

Jerri is recognized for contributions to the Shannon sampling theorem of information theory and was the first to write two advanced books on the Gibbs phenomenon. He is the author of more than half a dozen mathematics texts and research references published by Wiley, Marcel-Dekker, Springer-Verlag, and Sampling publishing.

Jerri has published research papers related to the topics of his books, in particular his invited detailed paper by the Proceedings of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers in 1977, which has enjoyed a very high number of citations of researchers benefiting from it. He is currently busy preparing an update for this paper.

He received a bachelor of science degree in physics from the University of Baghdad, and a master's degree in physics from the Illinois University of Technology. He earned a Ph.D. in mathematics from Oregon State University and is a two-time Fulbright Scholar.

Clarkson University launches leaders into the global economy. One in five alumni already leads as a CEO, VP or equivalent senior executive of a company. Located just outside the Adirondack Park in Potsdam, N.Y., Clarkson is a nationally recognized research university for undergraduates with select graduate programs in signature areas of academic excellence directed toward the world's pressing issues. Through 50 rigorous programs of study in engineering, business, arts, sciences and the health professions, the entire learning-living community spans boundaries across disciplines, nations and cultures to build powers of observation, challenge the status quo, and connect discovery and engineering innovation with enterprise.
