Hockey Canada Chairman Joe Drago to Receive Clarkson University Honorary Degree

Hockey Canada Chairman of the Board Joe Drago '63 will be awarded an honorary doctor of science degree at Clarkson University's 122nd commencement on May 9.

Joe DragoDrago, a Clarkson alumnus who received his bachelor of science degree in business administration in 1963, became the first chairman of the Hockey Canada board of directors under its new governance model on December 6, 2014.

A resident of Sudbury, Ontario, Drago is a retired educator who has also received Clarkson's Golden Knight Award and Arnold H. Barben Award. While at Clarkson, Drago played under head hockey coach Len Ceglarski and was a key member of three of Clarkson’s most successful teams during the 1960s.

Beyond his 33-year professional career in education, Drago is a dedicated volunteer in his community and has been recognized and honored locally, provincially and nationally for his work with charities and organizations. Drago has been involved with hockey for more than 45 years, coaching at the midget, high school, junior major, junior intermediate and senior levels. He has also served as the commissioner for the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey Association, the OHF Junior Council chair, and the president for the Ontario Hockey Federation.

During the commencement ceremony, Drago will address the students, their families and guests about a topic central to his success in life.
