How Immune Cells Collaborate to Protect Us at Next Clarkson University Science Cafe

"How Immune Cells Collaborate to Protect Us" will be presented by St. Lawrence University Assistant Professor of Biology Kari Heckman at the next Clarkson University Science Cafe at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 15, in the Park View Common Room, above the Blackbird Cafe, 107 Main St. in Canton, N.Y., and at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 16., at a new location at the St. Lawrence Valley Roasters & Jernabi Coffeehouse, 11 Maple St. in Potsdam, N.Y.

HeckmanHow does a vaccine work? How are bacteria and viruses destroyed in our bodies? Why does the body sometimes attack its own tissues? Heckman will introduce the cells of the immune system and explain how they work together to protect our bodies from disease without damaging our own tissues.

Science Cafes bring together engineers, scientists and townspeople in a relaxed, informal setting, such as coffeehouses and pubs. The speaker makes a short presentation about a topic in his or her field, and then opens up the floor to discussion.
