Clarkson University Students Excel at North Country Regional Business Plan Competition

Clarkson University student teams celebrated four first-place, five second-place and one third-place wins at the North Country Regional Business Plan Competition (NCRBPC) held on campus this month.

NCRBPCThe Reh Center for Entrepreneurship in Clarkson's School of Business hosted the New York Business Plan Competition (NYBPC) semifinals in the Student Center. A total of 31 teams from Clarkson, St. Lawrence University, SUNY Plattsburgh and Alexandria Central High School presented their business plans at the event.

Prizes for each of the University team tracks were $2,000 for first place, $1,000 for second place and $500 for third place. In addition to monetary prizes, the top two winners in each category will advance to the NYBPC on April 29 in Albany.

The winning teams were:

- Information Technology/ Software: First Place -- Mobile Form Processing (SUNY Plattsburgh); Second Place -- Tournament Manager (Clarkson University); Third Place -- Intercollegiate News Network (Clarkson University).

- Biotechnology/Healthcare: First Place -- Workers First (Clarkson University); Second Place -- Polysager (Clarkson University).

- Products/Services: First Place -- Powder Partner (Clarkson University); Second Place -- Parker Maple Products (Clarkson University); Third Place -- African Connection (SUNY Plattsburgh).

- Nanotechnology/Advanced Technology: First Place -- Lpuck Industries (Clarkson University); Second Place -- Impervious (Clarkson University).

- Social Entrepreneurship/Nonprofit: First Place -- SanoVie (Clarkson University); Second Place -- Twim (Clarkson University); Third Place -- Project Aqua (SUNY Plattsburgh).

- High School: First Place -- Cosmetic Connection (Alexandria Central High School); Second Place -- Life Sort (Alexandria Central High School); Third Place -- Uniqueleat (Alexandria Central High School).

This is the second year NCRBPC has included a competition for students in grades nine through 12 who are running their own business or who are working on a business plan in the classroom.

All high school students who participated in the NCRBPC at Clarkson will receive a $1,000 scholarship per year if they choose to attend Clarkson. The winning teams received additional scholarships and cash prizes. The first place team received $500 plus an extra $3,000 scholarship per year, the second place team received $300 plus an extra $2,000 scholarship per year, and the third place team received $200 plus an extra $500 scholarship per year. The prize money was donated by the Clarkson University Shipley Center for Innovation’s Office of Educational Partnerships.
