Clarkson University Welcomes Snyder as Chair & Associate Professor of Education

Clarkson University has welcomed Catherine Snyder as chair of the Department of Education and associate professor of education.

Catherine SnyderSnyder was previously a faculty member at Union Graduate College (UGC), which merged into Clarkson in February. She is based at Clarkson's Capital Region Campus in Schenectady, N.Y., the former UGC.

Snyder has taught internationally through the Council for Civics Education, Russell Sage College. As a fellow with the Civics Mosaic Exchange Program, Snyder conducted research, and taught in Volgograd, Samara and Moscow, Russia; hosted Russian colleagues; and contributed curriculum for a text book.

Her honors include the Executive Award from the Science Teachers Association of New York State; the Education Theory and Practice Graduate Student Travel Award; Initiatives for Women Award; General Electric Star Award; and the Edwards B. and Sally Murray Award for Excellence in Education.

She is highly active as an invited speaker and makes education-related presentations around the state and New England and abroad. She also is a consultant on teaching and curriculum.

Snyder served as interim dean at the Union Graduate College School of Education from 2015 until the merger. She was associate dean from 2006-2015 and acting dean from 2011-2013. She was a clinical assistant professor from 2006-2012 and was appointed associate professor in 2015.

Before her college posts, Snyder was a tenured social studies teacher with the Niskayuna Central School District and the Scotia-Glenville Central School District.

Snyder received her bachelor of arts degree in economics from Smith College. She received both her master of business administration and master of arts in teaching from Union College. She received her Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction from the University at Albany.
