Annual Relay for Life Event at Clarkson University Has Record Year

The Colleges Against Cancer student club at Clarkson University celebrated a record year this spring with the most participants and money raised at their annual 12-hour event.

Relay for LifeA total of 826 people gathered at the Andrew M. Schuler Recreation Building, and at least one member from each Relay for Life team walked around the track all night to demonstrate their ongoing support in the fight against cancer.

Participants also lit glow sticks in honor of those who have been affected by cancer, to illustrate how the disease has touched everyone's lives. Civil engineering student Courtney Antholzner '18, chair of the Relay for Life event, said the evening is a fun but meaningful way to raise awareness for cancer research.

"This event is to show that we're continually working toward the cure for cancer and we can't stop no matter what," said Antholzner, who will be the president of Clarkson's Colleges Against Cancer student club in the fall. "We're all here to support each other in the fight against cancer."

The student club raised more than $44,000 for the American Cancer Society.
