Clarkson University Research Professor Dana Barry Wins Awards of Excellence for 21 Consecutive Years

Clarkson University Research Professor Dana M. Barry, senior technical writer/editor at Clarkson’s Center for Advanced Materials Processing (CAMP), has won her 21st consecutive award for publication excellence, the APEX 2016 Award. Her first APEX Award for Publication Excellence was earned in 1996.

Dana M. BarryThe APEX Awards, presented by Communications Concepts in Springfield, Va., are based on editorial content and overall communications effectiveness and excellence. The competition is intense and includes more than 1,600 participants from all over the world. Barry’s 21st winning entry is the CAMP Annual Report Newsletter 2014-2015.

“I am very grateful to Distinguished University Professor S.V. Babu for his continued interest and support over the years," said Barry.

Barry, of Clarkson’s departments of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering and Electrical & Computer Engineering, has over 225 professional publications. These include 20 books, 33 book chapters, more than 80 peer-reviewed journal articles, science encyclopedia entries, aired television scripts, music CDs and more. Her work is published in the United States, Japan, England, Malaysia, China, India, and other countries.

Barry also has five graduate degrees, including a Ph.D. in engineering from Osaka University, Japan, a master’s degree in chemistry from Clarkson University, and a master’s degree in science education from SUNY Potsdam, along with permanent teacher certification for chemistry and the general sciences.

In addition to her work at Clarkson, Barry serves as a professor and scientific board president for Ansted University, and has been a visiting professor overseas numerous times. Her collaborator in Japan is Professor Hideyuki Kanematsu, deputy president of the National Institute of Technology, Suzuka College, in Japan. Barry is also a chemistry ambassador for the American Chemical Society and serves as an officer for its Northern New York Section.
